Edit: The total is in.

GameStop has laid off over 100 people, including nearly half of the Game Informer staff.

In a statement released to Kotaku. A spokesperson said.

we can confirm a workforce reduction was implemented impacting more than 120 corporate staff positions, representing approximately 14% of our total associate base at our company headquarters as well as at some other offices

In a year that has seen Gamestop's stock take a major hit, this was their way of staying afloat. All in the name of "Business Transformation".

Along with corporate lay offs. Seven people from Game Informer were blindsided by the news that they no longer have a job.

  • Imran Khan

  • Suriel Vasquez

  • Kyle Hilliard

  • Jeff Marchiafava (who was on vacation at the time)

  • Javy Gwaltney

  • Elise Favis

  • Matt Bertz

All of them are some of Game Informers most popular contributors and have been with the magazine for years.

Andy McNamara, editor-in-chief took to Twitter and posted. “I love Game Informer, its people and its readers more than any corporation could, and I will address all the issues when I can, but for now I need to focus on my GI family.”.

I spoke to somebody who works for GameStop and has worked there for years. When talking about what happened today he informed me that "they are cleaning house" and "this is only the beginning".

This kind of saddens me to report.

Game Informer, a major video game publication that has been in print since 1991 maybe shutting its doors for good.

What started as a six-page magazine published by FuncoLand and who was then taken over by Gamestop Corp in 2000 has been the pinnacle of video game news and reviews for 25+ years. They have a subscription count of 6.6 million and a digital subscription count of 2.1 million. Game Informer was the 4th most popular magazine in circulation.

Today, many employees have taken to Twitter to announce that they have been let go by Gamestop Corp. Those effected so far is Imran Khan (senior editor), Kyle Hilliard (senior associate editor), and associate editor Suriel Vazquez. Game Informer has 19 employees. Some of them have sent out Tweets saying they have been terminated. So far there is no confirmed number of people laid off. I think it's safe to say that all of them are gone.

I do not know at this time if this effects their Youtube or their podcast, both of which are actually quite popular.

In Tweet sent out earlier today, Imran Kahn alludes to a reason for all of this.

We know that Gamestop has been having financial issues lately, could this be what he meant by it? They could be down sizing a division?

So far Game Informer and even Gamestop hasn't commented on what has been happening. I will update this when they do, so look out for more info.

Whatever the reasons may be. This is heartbreaking to hear. I think I speak for the entire staff of Game Fix Show when I say that you guys will missed.

This has been James with Game Fix.
