Earthworm Jim is Returning to the Intellivision Amico

Earthworm Jim is making a comeback. According to Tommy Tallarico, the original team is getting back together to develop a brand new game that is coming to the Intellivision Amico. Whether or not programmer Dave Perry is a part of that crew remains to be seen, but no sources can verify that. With its great gameplay and memorable character designs and animation, Earthworm Jim at its peak was one of the most popular games of the 90's and the character was a bit of an icon who even had a brief cartoon series. After the 16-bit era, the character and series wallowed in obscurity with faint speculations if he would ever return.

I also love the idea that the Amico is aiming to develop exclusive software to give it more incentive to buy. If this also became the path to seeing other games from the past with currently no ownership of their licenses, like Clayfighter, return with a new spin or entry, I think that's a great idea. Along with the promise that all of its titles will be unique to the console, that makes the Intellivision Amico a very interesting piece of hardware to keep an eye on in the future. It doesn't have to try and dethrone the big three heavyweights (because that just isn't happening) but as long as it can manage to be sustainable, it could very exist with a niche audience. The Atari VCS and its huge crowd funding campaign proves that there is a market for this, providing it fulfills its promises to the people supporting it.

The Amico is set to be priced at $149 to $179, with the games being $2.99 to $7.99.
