Netflix announced this morning that they are teaming up with Hasbro to bring us an animated series based around the popular Collectible Card Game known as Magic: The Gathering.

Best yet, the series is going to be over seen by Joe and Anthony Russo. The Russo's are known for their extensive work on Marvel's Cinematic Universe, having been the director of Captain America: The Winter Soldier, Civil War, Infinity Wars, and Endgame. 

In a statement they said; 

We have been huge fans and players of Magic: The Gathering for as long as it has been around, so being able to help bring these stories to life through animation is a true passion project for us

The Russo's have signed on to be executive producers, Henry Gilroy (Star Wars: The Clone Wars) and Jose Molina (Agent Carter) will be the writers and serve as co-executive producers. Octopie Studios will be handling the animation and Bardel Entertainment (Rick and Morty) will also be contributing to the series.

The series itself is said to "expand on the stories of the Planeswalkers, which are Magic’s unique magic-wielding heroes and villains,”. There is currently no run time, no episode count, and no release date.    

John Derderian, head of anime programming on Netflix said; 

Magic is a beloved global franchise with a massively engaged fan base that has only continued to grow over the last 25 years, There’s no one better suited to bring this story to audiences around the world than Joe and Anthony Russo, whose talent for genre storytelling is unmatched, as is demonstrated by their central role in creating some of the biggest box office hits of all time.

There were rumors a few years ago of a live action Magic: The Gathering movie that was in the works. It was supposed to be written by Bryan Cogman (Game of Thrones) and released by Fox. Nothing has been said about it in years though. I personally think Magic would be better suited for animation anyway.
