OWL Stage 4 Week 1 Results and Standings

This is the final stage in the inaugural season of Overwatch League.

The meta has shifted. Brigitte has been released. This stage is running on patch 1.22, which means no Hanzo changes or Brigitte nerfs.

Its adapt or die time. Some teams, like the NYXL and The San Fran Shock have shown that even though Brigitte is the answer against dive comps. If you coordinate your dives, you can effectively shut her down.

And Kings Row is back in the map pool, so we are seeing a lot of Brigitte\Reinhardt\Zarya set ups being run on this map. Some with great results, others with not so much. It still comes down to coordination, for those teams who can coordinate, they win. For those who can't. They see the spawn door a lot more.

Boston has entered a slump. With their perfect record from last stage and leap frogging into second place in the overall league standings. They dumped their head coach in the cool down period and with their inability to let dive go, they have in effect put them self in a corner. If they can't adapt to the meta change, they will drop - and drop fast.

After a dominate First stage and a lackluster Stage 2 and 3. Houston has shown some promise in the opening week to Stage 4.  Their main issues were the lack of Tracer players. While Jake wasn't a bad Tracer, he also wasn't a good Tracer in a league that sports the likes of Sinatraa, Striker, and Saebyeolbe - my vote for best Tracer in the league after that performance in the Stage 3 finals against Boston. That has changed with Brigitte coming into play. They don't need to worry about those pesky Tracer's any more and can run the comp that they want. Pure grade A anti-dive. After taking games off of both London and Boston. They are on a hot streak that could end with a play off spot.

Dallas Fuel went up against the Shanghai Dragons again this week. They have meet several times during the season, and every single time Dallas has won, giving them their only real victory out side of the Mayhem all season long. But whole Dallas is spiraling out of control, with their star DPS player Effect pretty much calling it quits for the rest of the season, the Dragon's have been steadily improving their game. This is not the same Dragon's we saw in Stage 1. I know I keep saying this, but I think they're going to get a win. I don't think its going to be against a really strong team, like Boston or NYXL. But I do feel that, if the star align, they could pull off the victory in this stage. It won't help their overall standings in the league, but it will show them that their hard work has been paying off, and they should keep on doing what they're doing.

London faced a tough week having to play both NYXL and the Outlaws. They have yet to beat either team in a regular season match, but they started to show why they are a good team towards the end of Stage 3.

With that, lets go to the results from the week.

And now, some news from around the league.

News

-As stated above, this Stage will be running on the 1.22 patch on Overwatch. No Hanzo changes and Brigitte nerfs. She has entered full Super Saiyan mode.

-With his sudden absence for much of Stage 3, Hyeong “EFFECT” Hwang (DPS) of the Dallas Fuel has stated that he will not return for Stage 4. In a screenshot caught by Reddit user IceQj, show that Effect said in stream chat that "and I don’t go in Stage 4 … cuz hurt.”. When reached for a comment, Mike Rufail, the owner and CEO of the Dallas Fuel was quoted as saying

The staff and ownership at the Fuel have been in regular contact with Effect during his time in Korea. As Dallas Fuel owner Mike Rufail said earlier this week, this organization puts a priority on the mental health of all its players and staff, and will continue to do so as Effect rests.

With this being the final week to the final Stage. If we don't see Effect play at all, that could be the final nail in the coffin of the drama that is the Dallas Fuel. Effect obviously hasn't been happy for awhile now and I know there are a lot of teams who would do anything to get such a great talent onto their roster.

And finally

- The worst kept secret has finally be revealed to the world. In a move that well, surprised no body at all, former head coach of the Dallas Fuel, Kyle “KyKy” Souder, has officially joined the Houston Outlaws as an assistant coach. This has surprised no body at all, in fact a lot of people speculated that this was going to happen at some point since he has been spotted back stage with the boys from Houston since being let go from Dallas. KyKy isn't a stranger to a lot to the team in green and black, having known and be friends with a lot of the members for years. Lets hope that this is a positive change for him and the Outlaws. I believe KyKy to be a great coach when he isn't being held down by anything. I personally think he's going to add a lot to the team. Good luck KyKy!
