Platinum Games Has No Plans for Extra Content in Astral Chain, Aims for a Trilogy

Platinum Games is looking to push its boundaries with Astral Chain. In a recent IGN interview, Takahisa Taura spoke about the prospects of the upcoming Nintendo Switch action game. With its futuristic setting and high paced action, this title looks to add some very unique variables and a creative spin on combat with the incorporation of the Legions, cybernetic companions that aid you. With its high-tech police unit theme, it takes liberties from famed anime series like Patlabor and Ghost In The Shell.

"First of all, I want to say that it may look difficult because you control two characters, but the Legion you control does everything automatically. If you play it, you'll also find that it's not terribly difficult. Experienced players can choose to allowing the Legion to move freely allowing players to become even better at controlling two characters at the same time..."

During the recent Treehouse Event at E3, the combat on display showed how the Legion can aid in binding enemies or slowing them down to allow for openings. Platinum Games have received much acclaim and praise for their take on the modern hack-n-slash mayhem. Taura also expressed interest in making Astral Chain a trilogy if the title is successful enough, placing strong emphasis on making a rather captivating narrative. When the question of whether or not Astral Chain will have any bonus or extra content after release, Taura responded in kind:

"There are currently no plans to release extras for Astral Chain. This is different for the game's story. We make the game as a trilogy and this is the first part of that trilogy. If this game sells well, then we may see how the story of the series continues. "

Nothing is ever definitive in the game industry, and with time, perhaps this could be subject to change. This seems to be gauged on the initial interest and sales in Astral Chain, but it looks to not be a plan to ask customers to spend any more than the base price. Travis Strikes Again, released earlier this year from Grasshopper Studios, came included with a free season pass. This approach could be very promising for what sounds like ambitious plans to make this a series, and a consumer friendly approach could pay dividends for a potential budding franchise.

Astral Chain will be released August 30th exclusively for the Nintendo Switch
