Rockstar Has A New Game Launcher, Comes With Free Grand Theft Auto Game

Anyone in the market to add another game launcher to their PC desktop? Well, fret no longer, because Rockstar has arrived with their own application service to grant you easy access to your digital and disc-based library. And for a limited time, Grand Theft Auto San Andreas will come FREE, so there's an extra perk. You also get cloud saves for all games, auto updates, and follow-up on the latest news.

As of this time, there doesn't appear to be any special offers or discounts exclusive to this launcher. According to ARStechnica the launcher is mandatory to boot up certain games through Steam. Title like Grand Theft Auto V no longer appears to work without the Rockstar Games Launcher or logging in via Rockstar Social Club. This theoretically paves the way for the eventuality of Red Dead Redemption 2's PC release.

It sets a future that may see almost every major company will aim to have their own exclusive game launcher and garnering rights to their library of games. Digital ownership started out fairly straightforward and convenient, it's now starting to become a little absurd. It's one thing to be Steam, and while Steam has its share of problems it could afford to iron out, the customer is presented with options and choice. Creating a profile and signing in isn't a hassle, but I now have to pay a premium membership just to share images from Photobucket now. Is digital ownership strong-arming customers into accessing the rights to pay for games they already own? This is strange. But hey! You get that GTA game from 2004 for FREE!
