Jim Henson, American puppeteer and animator known for his educational children's show Sesame Street, and about 30 other properties. Basically, if there was anything that had to do with puppets, there is a really good chance that Jim Henson (and Frank Oz) had something to do with it. The mans talent was limitless.

In 1982 Jim Henson created one of the best children's fantasy movies ever. The Dark Crystal. The movie follows a Gelfing by the name of Jen who sets out to find a shard of the dark crystal so that he can repair it and bring balance back to the universe. Its a very cliched and predictable plot, even for its time, but this is post Star Wars and these type of movies were very hot. Plus it had Jim Henson's name attached to it. For its time, this movie was very innovative. The entire movie was nothing but puppets. First of its kind for the time. Despite it being marketed as a "family film" it was notably very dark. 

The Dark Crystal is a cult classic, and if you have never seen it, I recommend watching it. It's a great film. 

I bring this up because today, Netflix dropped its first trailer for the prequel show. The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance. 

Details of the story are very sparse, however we do know that its a prequel to the original movie and is about a trio of Gelflings who "inspire the rebellion against the Emperor". Just like the movie that inspired it, there is zero CGI effects. Everything you see is all puppets. According to the series director, Louis Leterrier, the only digital effects we will see is the green screen to remove the puppeteers.  

It's going to be in 10 parts and it's released on August 30th. It's also loaded with top tier talent. Andy Samberg, Helena Bonham Carter, and even Mark Hamill has lent their voice to the project.

I am a huge fan of the original movie and I cannot wait for this to come out. I have been excited for it since it was originally announced. Judging by the teaser, this show is going to look amazing and with the talent that is lending their voices, this could be an amazing show.
