A Bioshock Movie Is In Development For Netflix

It may have been roughly nine years since the last Bioshock game, there is some news afoot for the series. Whether or not fans will take this as good or bad news is entirely subjective, but in the age of video games making another surge to the big screen, or in this case, streaming services, the opportunities are leaving studios and publishers hungry.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Take-Two Interactive has been very aggressive in securing the rights for a Bioshock movie for the better part of a year, and they and Netflix have reached an agreement to potentially turn the first person shooter into a cinematic universe. Well, of course, who doesn't have a cinematic universe? Take-Two and Vertigo Entertainment is on board to serve as producers.

There's no director or writer on board, as of this reporting. Released in 2007, Bioshock is a steampunk themed game that tells the story of Jack, who survives his plane crash and ends up in the underwater city of Rapture. Utilizing elements of survival horror and stealth, Bioshock immerses players in its daunting and rich environments with memorable characters and enemies. There's also reports that a new Bioshock game has been in the works by studio Cloud Chamber, but a release date has yet to be announced.

The last game in the series was 2013's Bioshock Infinite.
