As 2024 comes to a close, we still know very little about any visual specs for Nintendo's new piece of hardware. The company has decided that an official reveal announcement will happen "before April 2025", it's the closest to concrete info any insider has (or has chosen to divulge). 

Case developer DBrand, a provider of protective hardware cases, may have provided one of the more potentially informative looks at what Nintendo has been producing. On their site, they're advertising a protective shell, labeled the "Killswitch 2" with a 3D scan rendered rotating model with the case with a glimpse of the new "Switch 2" inside. We've cleaned up some of the image for reporting, but the real image can be seen here. According to DBrand CEO Adam Ijaz, the 3D scan is based on real hardware. Intrigued by the potential specs, The Verge asked Ijaz where he retrieved the details for the rendering. Ijaz merely replied "Nice try, Nintendo".

As speculated, the Switch successor will allegedly have magnetically connecting and detachable Joycons, which has been one of the constants based on older "Switch 2" rumors. Its dimensions are expected to be loosely based on or similar to the Nintendo Switch OLED model, measuring 270 mm wide, 116 mm tall, and 14mm thick. The console itself measuring 200mm, with each Joycon being 35mm, and the wider kickstand. Based on the rendering, there appears to be a new button below what would be the Home button on the original Switch's right Joycon. 

How much of this will be revealed to be correct is anyone's guess. Accessory partners will get the CAD files for development once the console has been announced. Most of everything regarding Nintendo's new machine will have to be taken with a grain of salt.
