Animal Crossing, StarCraft, And Guitar Hero Potential Candidates For World Video Game Hall Of Fame

The World Video Game Hall of Fame has narrowed down their top 12 finalists for this year's inductees. 2020's honors went to Bejeweled, Centipede, Minecraft, and King's Quest. The voting for the selections are still open, so the video games that could be added this year include:

- Call Of Duty

- Tron

- Portal

- Microsoft Flight Simulator

- Animal Crossing

- Farmville

- FIFA International Soccer

- Guitar Hero

- StarCraft

- Pole Position

- Mattel Football

- Where In The World Is Carmen San Diego?

Established in 2015 at the Strong Museum in Rochester, NY, the World Video Game Hall Of Fame aims to recognize electronic games across all platforms (arcade, console, PC, mobile, and handheld) that have enjoyed popularity over a sustained period and have exerted influence on the video game industry or on popular culture and society in general.

Animal Crossing New Horizons for the Nintendo Switch has taken the world by storm, hitting over 31 million units sold worldwide. StarCraft, released in 1998, was an influential entry in the real-time strategy genre and one of the earliest successful grounds for establishing eSports, particularly in South Korea. Guitar Hero was released in 2005, and for a period of time enjoyed great success. While its popularity declined around 2009 and a new release not seen since 2015, Guitar Hero was a revolutionary and wildly entertaining rhythm game that provided great peripherals.

Ballots can still be voted on, and the finalists will be revealed May 6.
