I am old. I remember watching the original G1 Transformers on TV. I loved it. It was one of my favorite cartoons growing up. I owned all the toys and played with them constantly. I was doing GI Joe\Transformers cross overs before it was "cool". I also did Transformers\Ninja Turtles cross overs. 

When the original Transformers animated movie was announced, I was excited. My dad took me to the one theater showing it. When Optimis Prime died, I cried. I can admit that to you all. 

Then, in 2007, a new movie, live action, was announced. Directed by Michael Bay and staring Shia Labeouf & Megan Fox. I was a little excited, but also a little apprehensive. I know what Hollywood does to these shows, and I didn't want to see my Transformers get that same treatment. 

Alas, when it came out, I went with some friends (who are all G1 fans) and we all sat there for 2 hours mocking it. It was bad. It went on to cross $4.38 billion. So a second was in the works, and then a third, and then a forth. They looked different. It wasn't the Transformers that I grew up with. They modernized it, they turned Bumblebee into a freaking Mustang and worse yet. It was a love story between the humans. The Transformers were just background dressing. It was terrible. 

And then Michael Bay went on to ruin Ninja Turtles. But thats for another time.

Moving on to today, there is a new Transformers movie on the horizon. Titled "Bumblebee" and directed by Travis Knight (ParaNorman, The Boxtrolls, Coraline). This one stars Hailee Steinfeld (Pitch Perfect 3), Gracie Dzienny (The Zoo), and John Cena (even though I didn't see him.. strange really) This one.. actually looks good. 

Gone are the Michael Bay designs, and in are the original G1 designs. Bumblebee is no longer a Mustang, but a VW Beetle (thank you!). The movie takes place in 1987 and acts as an origin story of sorts with Bumblebee being the first Autobot on planet Earth. We don't really know much else other than that.   

I bring this up because Paramount Pictures just dropped the first trailer today, and omg it looks awesome. 

Soundwave, Ravage, Shockwave, and Opitmis. If we get G1 Megatron in this I can die happy. 

This is the Transformers movie that we deserved. Right now its set to be a stand alone movie, but I hope that changes if this movie succeeds. I would love a reboot of the franchise, and so far this movie looks like it could do it.  

Bumblebee is set to release December 21, 2018.
