The remasters of Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 1+2 were very successful commercially, selling 1 million copies in its first two weeks, and rekindling a generation from the late 90's the relationship it had with the peak of extreme sports' translation into video games. Those sales figures lead it to being the fastest selling game in the franchise. This leaves the question as to whether this could lead to a resurgence of the series.
Take it with a grain of salt, there may be news to report on that front. Though it's a month old as of this writing, during the Behind Closed Doors podcast, skateboarder, CKY drummer, and brother of Bam Margera, Jess Margera, hinted that a new Tony Hawk project is in the works. Well, not necessarily in those words. The topic of how bands earn their revenue in evolving mediums plays a part in their work, and the drummer spoke about including the band's songs into video games through licensing deals to make extra money. Around the 39:07 mark, the host of Behind Closed Doors, Lopez, asked about one of CKY's songs appearing in the Tony Hawk series.
Lopez (Host) Q: "Like you said, like a video game, like I assume you guys were on one of the Tony Hawk games, weren't you?"
Jess A: "Yeah and I believe we're doing the new one coming out too...My son just got a PS5 and he got the remaster of 1+2"
The CKY song in question was 96 Quite Bitter Beings, which appeared in Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 3 in 2001. Jess' brother Bam has also been a playable character in the series from the third game up to Proving Ground in 2007. If not a brand new game, then perhaps remasterings of 3+4.
Jess has spoken up on Twitter when traction of this interview gained momentum, stating that he's only heard rumors.
Hi. A podcast I did a few months ago seems to be popping up everywhere now about THPS3 remaster. I just want to clarify that I have only heard rumors, and that I have no inside intel or connections at blizzard etc, to confirm this. I don’t want to give anyone the wrong idea. With E3 approaching, will new Tony Hawk action come to fruition?
