Konami is one month away from the release of the anticipated Silent Hill 2, marking the first release of an entry in the survival horror franchise since Book of Memories on the PS Vita. For fans interested, the first 90 Minutes of official gameplay was streamed by Japanese streamer 2BRO (@norunine) on YouTube. In what has become a regular practice of outsourcing their IPs to third party developers, Konami has partnered with Bloober Team for this re-imagining project.
"Having received a letter from his deceased wife, James heads to where they shared so many memories, in the hope of seeing her one more time: Silent Hill. There, by the lake, he finds a woman eerily similar to her…," reads an official Konami press release.
“My name…is Maria,” the woman smiles. Her face, her voice… She’s just like her.
Experience a master-class in psychological survivalhorror—lauded as the best in the series—on the latest hardware with chilling visuals and visceral sounds.
Based on the footage, Bloober Team, known for their psychological horror games (Blair Witch, The Medium, Layers of Fear) has changed little about Silent Hill 2. A good deal of the key changes made have been adjusting the camera to more of a traditional over-the-shoulder third person perspective. Silent Hill is a series not quite refined for its action and combat, but Bloober Team adopted for refined means for James to defend himself against the supernatural. There are now aim-down sights and the ability to dodge, as monster encounters will now be a little heavier.
The Silent Hill 2 Remake is expected to launch October 8th 2024 for the PlayStation 5 and Steam via PC.
