Dragon Quest XI Gets An Official Release Date

I am a huge Dragon Quest fan. I like Dragon Quest more than the Final Fantasy series when it comes to my JRPGs. I love the stories and the art direction (thanks to Akira Toriyama of DragonBall fame).

When this popped up this morning on my Facebook wall, I let out a very large "HELL YES FINALLY" and then there was awkward stares from my co-workers. But whatever, we finally have a release date.

The highly anticipated large-scale RPG Dragon Quest XI: Echoes of an Elusive Age will be released on September 4, 2018 for the PS4 and Steam (YAY!) with a Switch release later (much later according to Square-Enix). Unfortunately for 3DS owners, there is no 3DS release for this title.

Last year, this game had a very successful Japanese launch and garnered perfect scores from the Japanese video game magazine Famitsu along with the Platinum Prize at PlayStation Japan’s end-of-year awards.

This massive game boasts 100 hours of game play and the Western release is going to get a few quality of life updates. First off a ‘Draconian Quest’, which is essentially a hard mode, completely overhauled menus and an improved user interface, a first-person camera mode, a dash function and "other general gameplay improvements".

You can watch a peak of the Western release of the game below.

On top of the other changes I mentioned, its also, for the first time ever in a Dragon Quest game, is going to feature fully localized voice acting. The Japan games never got voice acting, so this is a huge thing for us.

While the game did get confirmed for a Western release back in June, they did not announce a release date. Pre-purchases are already live on PSN and Steam. If you pre-purchase the game on the PS4, you will unlock a Dragon Quest XI console theme along with other perks when the games launches in September.

Square did confirm a Switch release, but did not give an exact date, but they are working on it.

Are you excited for the new DQ game? What platform are you going to get it on? Let us know in the comments below.

And as always, this is James with Game Fix. Game on everybody!
