There's a possibility that a new progressive entry in the Dead Space series may be put on ice, at least for the near future. According to an interview with Dan Allen Gaming, Electronic Arts recently turned down a pitch for a Dead Space 4 from series creator Glen Schofield, Brett Robbins, and Christopher Stone. During the interview with the podcast channel, Glen revealed that he, Stone, and Robbins proposed an idea for a Dead Space 4 very recently, which EA turned down.

 “We didn’t go too deep – they just said no, we’re not interested right now, we appreciate it, blah blah blah, and you know, we know who to talk to, so we didn’t take it any further… they know their numbers and what they have to ship and all that,”

Despite critical acclaim and fairly strong sales upon release in January of 2023 (coming second as a best seller to Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II and debuting first in the UK), the numbers didn't seem strong enough for Electronic Arts to immediately keep the ideas open for a remake of Dead Space 2. EA has denied this, seemingly placing an emphasis on studio Motive working on the Iron Man game and revamping the Battlefield series. Schofield commented about the state of the industry standing pat on taking risks.

“The industry is in a weird place right now. People are really hesitant to take chances on things, so you’ve got to you know, take it with a grain of salt, who knows, maybe one day, I think we’d all love to do it.”

Following his departure from EA, Schofield had his hand in multiple projects, including co-founding Sledgehammer Games, and founding Striking Distance Studios. Striking Distance would be the development team behind The Callisto Protocol, a spiritual successor of Dead Space. Schofield left Striking Distance following the survival horror game failing to meet its lofty sales expectations.
