Square Enix's multiplayer party game Foamstars will have its final seasonal update, as it concludes its content support. This news is provided by the game's producer, Kosuke Okatani, in a letter on SquareEnixGames.com. The ironically named "PARTY GOES ON" season will wrap up on January 17. 2025, with guest characters 9S and 2B, the protagonists from Square Enix's action RPG Nier Automata.
Support for Foamstars may be coming to an end, but at least for now, functions in the game remain available, such as Casual and Mission modes. EXTREME PARTY will be regularly accessible, and the Foamstars Cup will take place.
"Thank you so much for playing FOAMSTARS," Okatani wrote. "I don't want this to sound like a final message since you will be able to continue playing the game. However I wanted to take this opportunity to express my gratitude to you all once again...
If FOAMSTARS has become a game that you can enjoy with others, then we couldn't be happier.
Thanks to all of you, we’ve managed to successfully complete every update we had planned. We’ve been able to reach this point because of your warm support. On behalf of the entire team, I’d like to take this opportunity to express our heartfelt gratitude."
Launched on February 6th of 2024 (free for Playstation Plus subscribers), Foamstars branded itself as a "party game", yet was compared very often to Nintendo's Splatoon series, the area-control paint splattering team battler, though the objectives were different. Foamstars' player base dropped two months after its launch, losing 94% of active users. It seemed to have lasted only slightly longer than Destruction All-stars.
