Gran Turismo 7 Microtransaction Roadmap Require A Lot Of Grinding Or A High Price Tag

DLC and microtransactions are no longer an uncommon practice in today's video game atmosphere. Takes on them range from being very controversial to ambivalent. Gran Turismo 7 is the latest entry in Sony's exclusive racing series, and fans have taken notice of the cost of the game's monetization and how its in-game currency is structured.

According to PlayStationLifestyle.net, the changes made to Gran Turismo 7's pricing for unlocking vehicles would require significantly more grinding than its predecessor (2017's Gran Turismo Sport). In GT Sport, cars were able to be purchased individually and the prices ranged from $.99 to $4.99US dollars. For GT7, cars are purchased exclusively with in-game Credits, which have bundles sold on PlayStation Store. Sure, it's possible to grind and earn many of the sports cars, however comes the terms.

As reported by Eurogamer, the 1929 Mercedes-Benz S Barker Tourer was showcased at the 2019 State of Play, is priced at 20 million Credits. That's quite a bit of grinding. If this were to be purchased through the bundles on the PSStore, based on the Credit purchase tiers, it would take $200.00US to buy this car. Speaking of the purchase tiers, here's where they stand.

  • 100,000 credits – $2.49 / £1.99
  • 250,000 credits – $4.99 / £3.99
  • 750,000 credits – $9.99 / £7.99
  • 2,000,000 credits – $19.99 / £15.99

Reviews for Gran Turismo 7 have been positive, so this decision for DLC purchases, which the credit prices were based on real-life value appraisal from the classic car insurance company Hagerty (the authenticity is appreciated, but how does that add to the game experience?), appears to be the only real blight on the PlayStation exclusive.
