Halo Infinite Will Launch Without Forge And Campaign Co-Op Modes, 343 Confirms

343 Industries has had an adventure with the development cycle of Halo Infinite. "Adventure" might be a polite way of putting it, given the staff changes and programming hiccups following the response to 2020's gameplay trailer reveal, which did little to whet the appetite of fans. Those anticipating may be unhappy to learn the latest news from the team. On Friday, Joseph Staten, Halo Infinite's lead creative, confirmed that two fan favorite modes, co-op campaign play and the multiplayer map editor Forge will not be available day one.

“When we looked at these two experiences — campaign co-op and Forge — we made the determination [that] they’re just not ready,” Staten said in a video update. “So we’re going to keep campaign co-op and Forge in the oven for a little bit longer. When they’re ready, we’re going to release them as part of our seasonal roadmap next year.”

343 is planning on releasing the campaigns and modes as "seasonal releases". According to Staten, each season will be three month intervals, so the roadmap for these modes will be delivering co-op campaign in season two, with Forge being added in season three, likely putting these releases in early and mid 2022, depending on Infinite's release date, which will be revealed August 24 during a live event.

This is an odd way to roll out a highly anticipated AAA release, but it seems 343 Industries didn't want to run the risk of losing more consumer confidence by delaying Halo Infinite, so release the game this upcoming holiday season, and build around the extra mode releases down the road. The tests of Infinite's multiplayer have received positive feedback during a test beta, so perhaps that player experience will tide gamers over until it becomes more robust.
