Highlights From Xbox & Bethesda Games Showcase 2022

It's certianly been the summer of game trailers, and a week after Sony's State of Play, it was Xbox and Bethesda's turn to roll out a lot of titles heading to the Xbox Series X and S consoles. This is Bethesda's first major anthology of highlights since Microsoft's purchase of ZeniMax Media back in January. The presentation was pretty beefy, and while some titles were delayed until 2023, Xbox packed the show with plenty of games that will be rolling out in the next 12 months. Here's some of the notable highlights from the show, with many of these games coming to Game Pass.

Overwatch 2 Free To Play

Overwatch 2 arrives on October 4 as an always on, free to play experience featuring brand new content. Along with a brand new hero, Junker Queen, more details will be fleshed out June 16th at Overwatch's official Reveal Event on their Twitch and YouTube channels. Probably one of the better decisions made for the series.

Redfall Gameplay Reveal

The studio behind Prey and Dishonored. Continuing Arkane’s legacy of carefully crafted worlds and immersive sims, Redfall brings the studio’s signature gameplay to this story-driven action shooter. You’ll pick from a roster of four diverse heroes and either go solo or team up with up to three other players to round out your squad. Armed with a wide array of customizable gear, specialized weaponry and unique character abilities, ranging from the scientific to the mystical, you’ll take on the bloodthirsty threat and take back Redfall.

Redfall hits in 2023.

The Persona Series Comes To Xbox Game Pass

In 2008, Atlus' role-playing game series took the genre by storm. Persona 3 ushered in a new generation of fans. The franchise always seemed to be home to PlayStation. On the series' 25th anniversary, and for the first time, the Persona series will make their way to Xbox, as Persona 3 Portable, Persona 4 Golden, and Persona 5 Royal hits Game Pass October 21st 2022.

Diablo IV

The Diablo IV dev team dives into the latest gameplay innovations coming to the next installment in the Diablo franchise. The endless battle between the High Heavens and the Burning Hells rages on as chaos threatens to consume Sanctuary. With ceaseless demons to slaughter, countless Abilities to master, nightmarish Dungeons, and Legendary loot, this vast, open world brings the promise of adventure and devastation.

Naraka: Bladepoint

Released on Windows in 2021, Naraka: Bloddpoint is a third-person battle royale game that features up to 60 players fighting until the last warrior stands. With six million global sales, it makes its way to the Xbox Series X and Series S June 23, and will be available via Game Pass.

Hideo Kojima Partners With Xbox

The long-speculated rumors turned out to be true, the creative mind behind Metal Gear Solid, Zone of the Enders, and Death Stranding has entered a working relationship with Xbox. Nothing was officially announced, but it's a game Kojima has always wanted to work on, and he intends to make use of Xbox's Cloud technology.

After news stories made the rounds about Kojima Productions being acquired by Sony, it was refuted by Hideo Kojima himself, as his studio remains independent. He can be a polarizing individual, and opinions about his direction remains a volatile topic between his fans and those with dissenting opinions, but his methods of creating unique game experiences are without question.

"It may take some time, but I'm looking forward to teaming up with Xbox Game Studios."

Kojima fans can expect news in 2027, I guess.

Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty

From Koei Tecmo (Dynasty Warriors, Fatal Frame: Maiden of Black Water) and Team Ninja (Dead or Alive, Nioh), Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty follows the dramatic, action-packed story of a nameless militia soldier fighting for survival in a dark fantasy version of the Later Han Dynasty where demons plague the Three Kingdoms.

Players fight off deadly creatures and enemy soldiers using swordplay based on the Chinese martial arts, attempting to overcome the odds by awakening the true power from within.

Starfield Official Gameplay Reveal

The once enigmatic Starfield finally has a chance to shine. The HUD and animations still have that distinct feel the studio is known for, and it's still on Creation Engine. It will remain to be seen if the team can iron out its share of bugs and glitches that come with most Bethesda games.

Starfield releases on Xbox Series X|S and PC in 2023. Play day one with Game Pass.
