House Of The Dead Remake In Development

Remake-a-Mania will continue to run wild, as it's been reported by Graczpospolita that Forever Entertainment is on staff to produce reboots of the light gun rail shooters House of the Dead and House of the Dead 2. The Polish company has worked with Sega before, currently on the remakes of Panzer Dragoon and Panzer Dragoon II Zwei, which are due to be released exclusively on the Nintendo Switch in the coming weeks.

The Graczpospolita article states that the story will remain intact, with some modifications to the gameplay and obviously an overhaul to the visual style. With light gun functionality being a feature of a bygone era, it will be interesting to see if the games will be VR compatible. While specific platforms aren't currently listed for its availability, it's very likely that the Nintendo Switch is a given and could utilize Joycon optimization. I felt an opportunity was missed during the Wii and Wii U to revive these and other light gun titles like Virtua Cop, Time Crisis, and CarnEvil for home consoles with the implementation of motion controls. The sensor bar may have been spottier than light gun calibration, but it emulated the feel of arcade play very well with the House of the Dead collection on the Wii, along with Overkill in 2009, which was later ported to most platforms as of 2013.

House of the Dead initially was released in 1996 and has seen five entries in the mainline series, with at least ten spin-offs, including iterations such as The Typing of the Dead and Darts of the Dead. Not to mention a theatrical film loosely based on the game, directed by Uwe Boll in 2003.
