Konami's Contra Anniversary Collection Has its Lineup Revealed

The third of Konami's anniversary collections they've been releasing this season reveals its itinerary of Contra titles, and it's pretty great. Contra Hard Corps, a Sega Genesis/MegaDrive exclusive and one of the more rare games in the series, is included, as well as the regional variants, like Probotector, as the series is known in the European part of the world. The lineup is as follows:

- Contra (Arcade version)

- Super Contra (Arcade version)

- Contra (NES)

- Super C (NES)

- Operation C (Gameboy)

- Contra III The Alien Wars (SNES)

- Contra: Hard Corps (Genesis/Mega Drive)

International Versions

- Contra (Famicom)

- Probotector (EU/Mega Drive)

- Super Probotector: Alien Rebels (EU/SNES)

The European versions of Contra reskinned Bill Rizer and Lance Bean as two Macross Valkyrie-ish robots, which I always thought looked much cooler. This was in ordinance of laws against violence in those regions, so swapping out the human characters mitigates the explicit depictions of carnage.

The US release will also be getting the Japanese versions of the games with a free update.

- Contra (Arcade version)

- Super Contra (Arcade version)

- Super Contra (Famicom Super C)

- Contra Spirits (or Contra III/Super Famicom)

- Contra (Gameboy)

- Contra The Hard Corps (Mega Drive)

At 16 total games, this is the most robust of the Anniversary Collections. There appears to be a lot to offer. A release date and price are not given as of this writing, so expect those details to follow within time. Konami has done a good job on improving the quality of these collections, and Contra looks to be a knock out of the park. With how they have been on the upswing, I would love to see Konami rummage through more of their extensive library and put together a Vic Viper Anthology of the Gradius/Salamander/Life Force games. Even Parodius! I missed it when Konami was routinely weird.

And thank the STARS there's no Contra Force anywhere near this!!!

The bundle package is scheduled for release on early summer 2019 on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Steam and Nintendo Switch
