Konami's SILENT HILL Transmission Presentation Includes Silent Hill 2 Remake And Several New Projects

The silence has been broken, and news about the long speculated Silent Hill teaser trailers were revealed in Konami's upcoming projects. For the better part of 2022, the company beind Gradius, Pro Evolution Soccer, and Contra had sat on closely guarded news about the beloved psychological horror series, now details are available.

Silent Hill 2 will be developed by Polish studio Bloober Team (developers of The Medium, Blair Witch, and Layers of Fear), whom Konami announced a partnership with in regards to projects on the franchise. The Silent Hill 2 Remake will launch on the PlayStation 5, and will see console exclusivity for a year. It has also been listed on their Steam page.

Artist Masahiro Ito and veteran Silent Hill composer Akira Yamaokan will aid in work on the remake, with direction headed by The Medium's Mateusz Lenart. There will be new music and sound composition, and an over-the-shoulder perspective will be implemented. Bloober Team has a rather mixed reputation with the gaming community, perhaps some solace can be taken with knowing members of Team Silent will be working closely with them.

Several other Silent Hill projects from other studios are also on the Horizon. SILENT HILL Townfall, with development headed by Annapurra Interactive (the studio behind Stray) and No Code Studios (Observation and Stories Untold).

As it was reported before, Christophe Gans, the director of the 2006 Silent Hill movie, has returned to work on a third film. Victor Hadida, who has worked on the Resident Evil movies, including the latest venture, Welcome To Raccoon City, strongly pitched to Konami a return to the series for a new movie, currently known as Return to Silent Hill.

"In the first Silent Hill, we were exploring the world of this small town, completely closing into the mist. It was like being trapped in a Twilight Zone", spoke Gans. "But in the second game, the creators of the game have changed the rules. So we're basically going back to Silent Hill, the same town, but we are looking at this strange world and tell the point of view of the hero we are playing."

Another one of the trailers approaches the series from a rather unique perspective. Titled Silent Hill: Ascension, this aims to be an "interactive streaming experience" from Genvid, Bad Robot Games, Behaviour Interactive, and DJ2 Entertainment. You can subscribe to their website for more details in the future.

The final trailer was for a project called Silent Hill f, a brand new storyline in the franchise that will be written by famed Japanese horror author Ryukishi07. Ryukishi07 is the creator of the twisted psychological light novel horror series When They Cry. SIlent Hill f takes place in the 1960's, and it promises to be a "beautiful, yet horrifying world".

No release dates have been announced for these projects, but breaking radio silence may be enough substance for now. Given the franchise has been dormant for close to a decade since its last mainline release, Konami may have a rather steep hill to climb to win over fans.

How do you feel about this batch of Silent Hill news? Does it leave you excited or apprehensive?
