Microsoft May Reportedly Be Manufacturing Xbox Series X Chip Revisions

The Xbox Series X and S has seen some pretty good success since its launch, though the pandemic and continuing battles with bots and resellers have made obtaining them a little tricky. The Series S is a little easier to find, but indicators have reported that last month, the Xbox line of consoles have outsold the PS5 and Nintendo Switch in Europe for the first time, according to gamingbiz.com.

In a report from Video Games Chronicle (by way of Pure Xbox), Brad Sams spoke in regards to a question about future revisions of the Series X system. Sams brings up how Microsoft is looking to produce, more efficient chips to meet consumer demand and for console longevity.

"I believe this is true [...] I know that Microsoft was working on revisions of the chip.

Now, are we going to see performance improvements, are we going to see anything else? I do not believe so but Microsoft is always working on making cooler, more efficient chips because that lowers the cost of production."

"I believe it is accurate the Microsoft is working on a smaller, more power efficient chip. That is, I'm very confident in that."

The information can be taken with a grain of salt, but mid-generation console refreshes aren't uncommon. It's been tough for manufacturers to keep up with demand for gaming hardware, so a rumor had been speculated that Microsoft paid for chip priority, which has lead to more readily available listings for Series X|S consoles, as reported again by Pure Box. Another story to take with a grain of salt.

As of January 2022, the Xbox Series X and S consoles as surpassed 12 million units sold worldwide.
