The surge of arcade style brawlers continue, as the teens from Angel Grove join the fray. Produced by Digital Eclipse (who has produced a lot of notable anthology collections such as the SNK 40th Anniversary Collection, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Cowabunga Collection, and the Mega Man Legacy Collection), Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: Rita's Rewind places the Rangers against a robot version of their arch nemesis Rita Repulsa.
By teaming up with a younger version of herself, Rita hopes to rewrite history by placing key events from the television series out of order.
Rita's Rewind embodies the 90's style arcade gameplay that's seen its resurgence in recent years, headlined by the success of Streets of Rage 4, along with Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder's Revenge, Battletoads (2020) and the return of Scott Pilgrim vs The World. Along with the side-scrolling brawling, Rita's Rewind also blends action set pieces like on-rail segments, exploration, third person perspective Zord battles, and puzzle solving portions to juggle up the gameplay.
While it has local co-op across all platforms, there appears to be no online multiplayer for the game, as of this writing. Couch co-op as an option is certainly adequate, it is a little surprising that online is omitted. Will be interesting to see if that feature is included in a future update.
Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: Rita's Rewind launches TODAY for the Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5, PS4, and Windows.
