Nintendo Of America Reportedly Received 'Easily Thousands' Of Drift-Issue Joycons

The Nintendo Switch has been a successful console since its launch in 2017. Its one main caveat, and fight its been enduring since its release has been the lingering issue of JoyCon drift, the occurrence when a motion input is read by an analog stick without prompt. While Nintendo vehemently denied the severity of the drift issue over the months and years, they did offer to fix faulty JoyCons free of charge. The matter had reached a point where lawsuits were issued by disgruntled customers.

In a report by Kotaku, a former supervisor who worked for United Radio, a tech consulant and repair service mostly staffed by temp employees provided by Aerotek, hired to handle Nintendo Switch JoyCon repair stated that their offices were completely overwhelmed by the high volume of JoyCon Drift-riddled controllers, it lead to the situation being "very stressful" and resulted in a lot of mistakes being made during repairs. It didn't help that the high employee turnover rate, a fundamental lack of knowledge about the JoyCon tech, combined with poor labor practices and very few English-speaking staffers being available, leading to errors and mismanagement.

“Easily thousands of Joy-Cons were coming through each week”, the former supervisor spoke. “We ended up having to set up an entire new workspace just for Joy-Con repair.”

The slow repairs, accompanied by the company's downplaying the massive issue that JoyCon drift has been for 5 years, continues to be a blemish. They've allegedly provided better tech with the manufacturing process of Nintendo Switches and JoyCons, but as long as the hybrid console remains a smashing success, this problem will never be truly addressed, as the seemingly cynical means of the repair process, which not to put United Radio or its staffers at fault, is evident.
