We have had many different actors playing the iconic Batman villain. Cesar Romero was the first person to be the Joker way back in the 60's. Then came Jack Nicholson in the 1989 "Batman" movie, to the much celebrated Heath Ledger portrayal in 2008's "The Dark Knight", to the much more recent Jared Leto in the 2016 "Suicide Squad" movie.
This isn't including the countless voice actors who have been the voice of the Joker through the years. Mark Hamill, Brent Spiner, Troy Baker, and countless others (Zach Galifianakis.. what?) who have all lent their voice to portray the Joker in some way or another.
Every one of these people, from the voice actors to the on screen actors, have all portrayed the Joker differently, because through the years, the character him self has evolved. He has changed, every medium he was different, and it took a different style to portray that.
Every one of them was a good representation of the character. Yes, even Jared Leto. They all made the character their own, while also staying true to what the Joker was.
For the first time, we are getting an origin story of the character, an actual original origin story. When first announced a lot of people wondered why. When the actor playing the Joker was announced - the very talented Joaquin Phoenix - a lot of people rolled their eyes.
But, with every image, with every teaser, it slowly came together. This is a Joker we have never seen before, and the thought of it excites me. This isn't a traditional comic book movie, it's more of a psychological thriller.
Warner Bros. just posted their final trailer.
Wow. That's really all I can say to this. Just watch it.
That laugh gave me chills.
"Joker" is set to release on October 4th. Directed by Todd Philips and staring Joaquin Phoenix.
