Original Owners Of Friday The 13th Plans To Launch New Line Of Multimedia Featuring Jason Vorhees

"Welcome to a new era...of the Friday the 13th Franchise"

In a new relaunch of the iconic slasher horror series, there is a grand work to incorporate Jason Vorhees in a wide range of entertainment, as reported by IGN. This covers games, merchandise, and "more to be announced throughout 2024". A "Jason Universe", as the social media posts indicate, with Universe stylized with the "I" and "E" replaced with "13".

Victor Miller, the writer of the first Friday the 13th film, retained the domestic rights to the original film after a lengthy lawsuit in 2021, will be working in conjunction with Robert Barsamian in this new era for the franchise. Barsamian, who was an executive producer on the once popular and critically acclaimed asymmetrical survival horror Friday the 13th: The Game, is the president of Horror Inc., is also acting as executive producer for the upcoming Crystal Lake series that will be coming to the streaming service Peacock. It will serve as an expanded prequel.

“For decades, Jason shocked and thrilled audiences who kept coming back for more. We’re excited to work with Victor Miller and Marc Toberoff on new projects we’ll announce in the coming months,” spoke Barsamian to IGN.

With the character's rights being tied in legal limbo for many years, the Friday the 13th had seen a smattering of video games across home computers in the 80's. As far as home consoles go, there was the infamous Friday the 13th game on the Nintendo Entertainment System released by LJN in 1989. It was ambitious, and retrospectives have given it praise for some of its more progressive qualities as an early survival horror game, but was ultimately seen as less than satisfactory, due to its inconsistent difficulty, poor navigation, and frustrating controls.

While the 2017 game has been delisted, its servers closed, and expected to be functional at least until December 2024 due to the expiring license, fans can potentially look forward to new lines of Friday the 13th-based video games in the future. You can follow their socials for more details to come in the future.
