Not a super big week in terms of upsets but, a lot did happen. First off, this was the week of sweeps. Out of the 12 games total played this week, 8 of them were 4-0's (which lead to the new meme "4-0verwatch"). So nothing exciting at all. The Dragons once again lost all of their matches and are still in last place. With us going into week 5, its safe to say that Shanghai needs to go back to the drawing board. Maybe they can move to Cleveland and rename them self the Browns (Sorry Spanish <3)?

Lets go to the board.

Standings as of February 4th

Team Division Overall Record Map Record Points
London Spitfire ATL 7-1 26-8 14
New York Excelsior ALT 7-1 25-8 14
Seoul Dynasty PAC 6-2 22-11 12
Houston Outlaws ATL 5-3 24-10 10
Boston Uprising ATL 5-3 21-14 10
Los Angeles Valiant PAC 5-3 19-13 10
Philadelphia Fusion ATL 5-3 17-18 10
San Francisco Shock PAC 3-5 13-18 6
Los Angeles Gladiators PAC 3-5 12-22 6
Dallas Fuel PAC 1-7 8-22 2
Florida Mayhem ATL 1-7 7-25 2
Shanghai Dragons PAC 0-8 4-29 0

London Spitfire and New York Excelsior are now tied for first place dropping Seoul Dynasty into second place leaving a 4 way tie for 3rd place. Boston, Philly, LA, and Houston are threatening that number 2 spot. With week five having a lot of big games, I'm sure this board is going to look different. The biggest game coming up is going to be Boston Uprising vs Philadelphia Fusion (Thurs Feb 8th). Both teams have shown that it doesn't take big names to do big work. I am very excited to see the DPS match up between Shadowburn (Fusion) and Dreamkazper (Uprising). Both players have been doing phenomenal this entire stage. But lets not write off Houston at all. Houston has been having some big games also. You cannot sleep on them. They haven't done anything too exciting, but we still got one week left of this. Week 5 could be their week and they have matches against both London (Thurs Feb 8th) & Boston (Sat Feb 10th). We can't sit on this team. Plus the LA team. Valiant has been really solid this whole stage, having beat Fusion 4-0 this week, but then losing to Boston 4-0 three days later.

The mid card is where all of the action is taking place.

Me personally, I'm very torn with the Boston vs Philly match. Boston is my home town team, but I have also been rooting for Fusion. Regardless of who wins. Its going to be an amazing match.

In the news

Three new sponsors for the Overwatch League has been announced. Sour Patch Kids, Toyota, and T-Mobile are now OWL sponsors. T-Mobile is no stranger to esports, having sponsored several in the past, including Cloud 9. Sour Patch Kids has never sponsored an esport event in the past, but have partnered up with developer Capcom to create a game in 2013. Nothing is really known about the Toyota sponsorship, but Toyota plans sponsored content, streaming integrations and a vehicle presence at Blizzard Arena. Add them to the 2 sponsors already, Omen by HP and Intel, and that brings the total OWL sponsorship up to 5.

The biggest news to come out of this week though. According to Reddit, Kim Se-yeon better known as "Geguri" announced on her live stream that she has been picked up by "a foreign team". She didn't announce what team it was or even went into detail about it. But, she is coming. If you are unfamiliar with her. She is an off tank player and one of the best Zarya players in the world who has recently picked up D.Va. She is also friends with Boston Uprising player Striker. I personally cannot believe it took a team this long to get her. Her game knowledge and her mechanics should have made her a pick from the beginning. She is a fantastic player to watch. You can literally put her on any team and their rankings will go up. Thats just how freaking good she is.

Thats its for this week. I will be back next week for the week 5 results and to give my thoughts on Stage 1 as a whole (spoiler: Its been fun to watch).

As always, this is James with Game Fix. Game on everybody!
