PlatinumGames Changes Bayonetta's Voice Actress, Jennifier Hale Takes Up Role For Third Game

WIth Bayonetta 3 hitting store shelves later this October for the Nintendo Switch, this long-awaited sequel to the adventures of the Umbra Witch now pits her against a man-made foe. With many familiar allies, along with new ones, Bayo's third installment features new skills, combos, and spells to flesh out PlatinumGames' signature speedy action.

There will be one notable change, however, Bayonetta will sound a little different. As reported by GameInformer, PlatinumGames verified that Hellena Taylor, who voiced the sultry and stylish Umbra Witch in the first two Bayonetta games and Super Smash Bros. Wii U and Super Smash Bros Ultimate, will not be reprising her role in Bayonetta 3. According to the game's director, Yusuke Miyata, the decision was made due to "various overlapping circumstances". A vaguely cryptic reply tweet from Taylor in 2021 indicated she may not be back.

After auditions, veteran voice actress Jennifer Hale will fill in the role As Bayonetta for Bayonetta 3 and perhaps the foreseeable future. Hale, no stranger to video game voice roles, as well as cartoons and film, has lent her talents to the Mass Effect series as the female Shepherd, Mortal Kombat (Kronika in MK11 and Tanya in MKX), Overwatch (Ashe), and Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots (Naomi Hunter). Her voice can be heard in television series such as various characters in DuckTales 2016, Guardians of the Galaxy, and will be heard in the upcoming X-Men '97

Bayonetta 3 launches October 28, 2022 exclusively for the Nintendo Switch.
