Two weeks ago, Nintendo launched a mysterious closed playtest for the Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack. Nintendo accounts for the US, Germany, Japan, France, and the UK were asked to sign a non-disclosure agreement, to keep details from this secretive exhibition from public record.
It turns out that not too long after going live on October 23rd, players unsurprisingly attempted to stream the gameplay of this multiplayer test on Twitch and YouTube, seeing Nintendo issue DMCA claims on the leaked footage. According to IGN, the following day (Oct 24), Nintendo struck down a handful of channels and continue to issue out claims against channels, but are having a difficult time staying ahead of the curve. Once something is on the internet, it's there forever. Reddit user BrettWils_ commented on his experience:
"Yeah I got fully DMCA’d, so channel super dead.
I recorded everything locally, but not sure I want to take further risk and share it through other means. Open to it if anyone has a safe-ish way to do it tho."
Based on the leaked footage, the unnamed game appears to be a third-person MMO world builder, perhaps similarly in the vein of Dragon Quest Builders. There were shops, and a player progression system for the avatars, with the objective being building higher staircases to proceed upwards. We won't share any of the imagery here, the details that are available are fairly easy to track down. Chances are, this is more likely an alpha to test internet stability or a game engine.
