PlayStation Stars, A New 'Loyalty Program' Will Launch From Sony In 2022

Sony plans to roll out a free loyalty membership add-on feature to the PlayStation platform, coined "PlayStation Stars". Since the inception of the PS5, the company's m.o. has been telling their fans that they're "true hardcore gamers". This will include digital prizes and unlockables that can be earned through gameplay experiences, achievements, and netting specific trophies.

"Once you become a member, you’ll earn rewards by completing a variety of campaigns and activities", spoke Grace Chen, Vice President of Network Advertising and Licensed Merchandise. "Our 'Monthly Check-In' campaign simply requires you to play any game to receive a reward, while other campaigns require you to win tournaments, earn specific trophies, or even be the first player to platinum a blockbuster title in your local time zone."

The campaigns appear they will be locally, rather than globally, as time zones are specifically mentioned. The points can be earned and spent on the PlayStation Store from your wallet, ranging from artwork, digital collectibles and figurines from Sony's library of properties. It's framed as NFTs, in case that was the implication. It essentially works the same way as Xbox Rewards.

Updates will be included regularly, and some will be very rare, giving an incentive to play their games even more frequently. Look for this free addition to the PlayStation later in 2022.
