NIS America is reaching back into the past to pull a long dormant series of RPGs for today's audience. The publisher/developer of the Disgaea franchise will be bringing the two R-Type Tactics games, which were originally released on the PlayStation Portable, is aimed to launch on most consoles next year. The short teaser trailer didn't reveal a great deal of information, beyond confirmation.

Developed by longtime developer of the space shooter series IREM, the first R-Type Tactics was released in 2007, titled R-Type Command in the United States. Like most tactical RPGs, it takes place on a hexagonal grid, while at the same time not departing from its side-scrolling roots. Aspects of the traditional horizontal gameplay remain intact.  

The sequel, R-Type Tactics II: Operation Bitter Chocolate would be released in 2009, also for the PSP. This will be the first time in 13 years these games will make a jump from the handheld platform.
