REPORT: Annapurna Interactive's Game Division Quits Company

“This was one of the hardest decisions we have ever had to make and we did not take this action lightly.”

According to a story from Jason Schreier of Bloomberg, the entire game producing team at Megan Ellison's Annapurna has departed. The mass exodus stems from the result of talks to spin the video game division into a separate company bottomed out. The discussions between Annapurna Pictures founder Megan Ellison and former president Nathan Gary dissolved, leading to Gary's resignation. The remainder of the game division, upwards of two dozen employees noted for their stellar and critically acclaimed work on games like Stray and What Remains of Edith Finch, following suit in seemingly a show of solidarity. Gary held the position of president since 2021.

“All 25 members of the Annapurna Interactive team collectively resigned," Gary spoke in a joint statement. "This was one of the hardest decisions we have ever had to make and we did not take this action lightly.”

It was reported last month that Hector Sanchez, one of Annapurna Interactive's original founders, returns as president of interactive and new media. He previously spent the last five years at Epic Games. Sanchez has stated that this will not affect existing contracts and the staff tasked with respective projects will be replaced.

Annapurna recently partnered with Remedy for film and television adaptations of Alan Wake and Control, so there likely won't be anything too heavily derailed there. For the games division, this will likely have an affect on the vision for what Silent Hill: Townfall was aimed to become, as Annapurna partnered with Konami for that project.
