Over half of US Xbox users launched Black Ops 6 on DAY ONE
Since the acquisition of Activision Blizzard King, the first person shooter series was going to be a strong fixture in the growth and sustainability of Microsoft's Game Pass subscription service. The launch of Black Ops 6 has proven to be an enormous success for Xbox.
According to GamesIndustry.biz, Call of Duty: Black Ops 6's launch breaks records for Game Pass subscriptions, as 52% of United States Xbox users fired up the newest game. 34% of PlayStation users logged on as well, as Black Ops 6 saw a 60% uptick in back-to-back years. This marks the largest launch in the series' history, as sales for the entire franchise hit 500 million worldwide.
While 2023 was a lean year for Xbox when it came to exclusive software and unit sales, the logn-term roadmap of the ABK purchase is paying off, figurative and literally. Following a year of hardship and restructuring, which also included massive layoffs and selling off studios like Hi-Fi Rush developer Tango Gameworks, Xbox and Microsoft may finally have a vision for what Xbox can be for its in-house brands. The upcoming holiday release of Indiana Jones and the Great Circle Bethesda will round out a strong year for Game Pass.
