REPORT: Sources Say Capcom Is Very Likely To Reveal Street Fighter 6 Next Week

It's too perfectly timed. As of this writing, Capcom's Season Final Pro Tour is taking place (February 18-20), where 31 qualifying pro SFV players from regions around the globe battle in First to Five matches, and it will be the final Pro Tour season in Street Fighter V Champion Edition's lifespan. Last week, a cryptic countdown popped up on Capcom's website reading "6/24", leaving many wondering what this could be a reveal for.

According to Video Games Chronicle, GamesBeat journalist Jeff Grubb has strongly speculated that Street Fighter 6 will be revealed Monday morning on his Giant Bomb paywalled video show. "Everybody should expect Street Fighter 6, because that's what I've heard".

It had been a state of flux for Capcom. A season 5 for Street Fighter V was never supposed to happen, but due the complications of the pandemic (which caused Capcom to postpone the last two season finales for CPT tournaments and the 5v5 series Street Fighter League), and the departure of former producer Yoshinori Ono, the new staff paved a roadmap to fill in time while plans for Street Fighter 6's philosophy and design shifted. Current series director Takayuki Nakayama and producer Koichi Sugiyama likely kept many core details under wraps, as to not cut off sales and pro player attention away from Street Fighter V. Five new characters were added (Dan Hibiki, Rose, Oro, Akira from Rival Schools, a Capcom fighter from 1997, and brand new character Luke) bringing its roster up to 40. Luke has been stated to be a teaser for what the future of Street Fighter has to offer.

Street Fighter has been celebrating its 35 year anniversary, it'd be fitting to announce the newest entry in the series right as the previous game drops the curtain on its tournament run. Street Fighter V began with a polarizing launch that left the fighting game community and casual players divided on its build, as it released at full price with very few offline features like an Arcade and Team Battle modes. Over the years, and several core balance patches later, the game has become a very viable fighting game.
