Resident Evil 2 Remake Not Planned for the Nintendo Switch...And That's Okay

The Nintendo Switch has seen its library expand considerably, with a lot of quality ports from third party companies. Capcom's influential survival horror series, Resident Evil, will be bringing the franchise to the hybrid console. Resident Evil (the remastered version of the Gamecube remake), RE0, and RE4 were announced this last October. Recently when asked about a port of the critically acclaimed Resident Evil 2 remake coming to Nintendo's platform, the community manager, @IAmKatastrophe, had this to say:

The advent of companies practicing in "port begging" has become prominent with the Switch, primarily during the console's launch. Its horsepower being weaker than the base Xbox One and PS4, combined with the uncertainty of the Switch's success left many studios in a wait-and-see holding pattern to gauge the install base and general acceptance. Since then, the Switch has been a hot commodity and major third party developers have come around. But one question is always at the tip of any journalists' tongue:

"Will this come to the Switch?"

There's nothing particularly wrong with wanting to see more third party titles come to the Switch, Mortal Kombat 11 arriving roughly as soon as its competitors' is an indicator that the transition to the Switch is a more than feasible one. And while it is a mildly condescending statement from companies asking a thinly veiled "Will this be worth our time to port?", I don't think it should be taken to heart that all games HAVE to come to the Switch to quantify its variety. Some of the ports, like the upcoming Dragon Quest XI or Ys VIII, are worth their wait. But it's a tall order to expect games like Overwatch, Cyberpunk 2077, or Red Dead Redemption 2 to arrive without notice. The Direct showcased some interesting looking exclusives, a list that's growing in diversity almost at a monthly rate, and that's not even mentioning the eShop listings. One's select interest in larger games may not be available, but the Switch has shown it doesn't need them to thrive.
