The Paul W.S. Anderson era of movies wrapped up several years ago with 2016's The Final Chapter. The movies were critically panned by Resident Evil fans, but were box office successes. A theatrical reboot of the franchise was announced and began production not too long after the development of Resident Evil: The Final Chapter. Directed by Johannes Roberts (47 Meters Down, The Strangers: Prey At Night) Welcome To Raccoon City will reintroduce events between the Arklay Mansion in the first game and Claire and Leon's appearances during the outbreak in Resident Evil 2.

The movie stars Kaya Scodelario as Claire Redfield, Chris' younger sister who goes searching for him after he's reported missing. Robbie Amell as STARS member Chris Redfield. Neal McDonough as William Birkin, one of the scientists heading Umbrella's experiments. Avan Jogia as Leon Kennedy, a Raccoon City Police Department officer who partners up with Claire to escape the city.

Resident Evil: Welcome To Raccoon City will be released exclusively in theaters November 24, 2021.
