The PlayStation 5 is certainly a hot commodity. Rap star Travis Scott has also been blazing a trail in 2020 as a marketing hot ticket and becoming a brand in and of himself. The 28 year old entrepreneur, a fan of Sony, had signed a deal to serve as a strategic partner for the PS5.
“I’m really looking forward to being able to showcase everything that Cactus Jack has worked on with Sony and the PlayStation team", Scott said in October. "Most importantly I’m excited to see how the PlayStation fans and family respond, and I look forward to running some games with everybody very soon!”
After releasing an unboxing video for the PlayStation 5 that in some ways felt more like a short movie, there's indications that this partnership deal could lead to more grand projects. According to an article from Forbes, sources close to the site tease that in ordinance with the multi year deal, Scott could be at the helm of creating his own limited edition PlayStation 5 console, and possibly a chance to design his own video game.
Travis Scott's success has stemmed from the performer's ability to be a diverse and dynamic multi-platform showman with universal appeal. Through 2020, Scott has brought his business acumen to McDonald's, promoting the Travis Scott Burger. The Quarter Pounder was so popular, it sold 3 times the number of meals than the fast food chain was projecting. The rapper also held a virtual concert in Epic's Fortnite, where he towered 1,000 times taller than the average player. The concert reportedly netted 12.3 million viewers and made the rapper $20 million dollars.
Scott's deal with PlayStation is certainly a gigantic deal that could pay dividends for a console that is expected to net 7.6 million unit sales by March 2021. More details about their arrangement are expected to be divulged in the coming weeks. What say you? Would you be interested in playing a Travis Scott video game?
