Sega Releases New Yakuza: Like A Dragon Trailer

The Yakuza series has always been known to be quite surreal and a little larger than life as the series progressed. Its newest entry, Like a Dragon, the eighth mainline game and the first to not focus on long-time protagonist Kazama Kiryu, looks like it's going to be an absolute off-the-wall adventure pulled off the pages of a manga.

Like A Dragon will follow Ichiban Kasuga, who spent 18 years in prison and once out vows to be a hero like the characters in his video games and comics growing up. Many aspects familiar to the Yakuza series remain intact, like taking up odd jobs and completing sub quests throughout the the game. It even features a fully playable Virtua Fighter 5: The Final Showdown.

The greatest change is the battle system, which will now be traditional turn-based combat, akin to Dragon Quest XI and Persona 5. The battles will include interactive environments that can be used, like kicking bicycles and random debris at enemies, so that spirit of the original combat is in play. Also new for Yakuza, Saeko Mokuda and Eri Kamataki will be the first ever female characters playable in any capacity.

Yakuza: Like a Dragon is available November 10th 2020 for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Xbox Series X and S, and coming to the PlayStation 5 March 2nd 2021.
