Shingo Yabuki Headlines King Of Fighters XV Season 2 Announcement

SNK has some early details regarding KOF XV's season 2 package for players to look forward to coming in 2023. Roster additions, along with some balance adjustments for the characters will be heading to King of Fighters XV next year, and leading the announcement will be the return of Shingo Yabuki, the first character coming, along with Kim Kaphwan. A rollback update will also be heading to Samurai Shodown, making quality of life changes to the online experience.

Debuting in King of Fighters 97, the genuinely gentle and "goofy" Shingo was introduced to add some levity to KOF's rather darker storyline. He was brought in as a comedy foil for protagonist Kyo Kusanagi as an eager trainee who wishes one day to wield flames like his hero. His character, in concept, is very similar to Street Fighter's Sakura Kasugano and her admiration for Ryu. It wasn't long before his popularity exploded. His last appearance as a playable character was King of Fighters 2003, mostly making a presence in portions of the series' story.

Kim's absence on the base roster left fans surprised, as he has always been a King of Fighters mainstay throughout the decades. This marks the first time he will be added as a purchasable download since the inception of the concept. Kim Kaphwan debuted in 1992's Fatal Fury 2 and the Taekwando master with a strong sense of justice has always been an ally of the Bogards. Most of Kim's tenure has been working to rehab criminals Chang Koehan and Choi Bounge as a part of Team Korea.

King of Fighters XV is currently available for the PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.
