Small Change In PS5 Update Will Ease Everyone's Minds

Sony opening up SSD storage extension is without a doubt a much anticipated change. So far in the PlayStation 5's life span, it has expanded quality updates to its UI over the months. One of the new perks in the upcoming update (still currently in beta test mode for those who signed up for it) is a tiny one, but may mean a lot more in the grand scheme of matters.

The PS5 will now let you know if the game you're playing is on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 4, or available for both. It's similar to the labels on the Xbox Series X and S titles that indicate the platforms, even labeling the original Xbox and Xbox 360 titles. With a lot of games being cross-generation or seeing upgrade eligible games, this could avoid some confusion for the consumer. Adam Vjestica of TechRadar highlights the perks of the change:

Case in point: I picked up a physical copy of Square Enix’s sublime Final Fantasy 7 Remake, with the intention of upgrading it to the PS5 version. As both versions use the same cover art, it can be difficult to know which version is the right one when displayed on the home screen. However, with the new PS5 update, I can immediately see which is the PS5 version and which is the PS4 version. Huzzah!

Who would have thought a tiny white icon would allay so much confusion? As stated, this update is still in beta form and Sony has not issued a rollout date for it as of this writing, one can expect an announcement in the coming weeks. We will keep you posted.
