"REVOLUTIONIZE THE LEGACY"
With the 30th anniversary of SNK's legacy fighting game series, the holdings company reveals the birth of KOF Studio. In a press release, they state that KOF Studio will "proudly carry on the storied legacy of our iconic fighting game IPs while driving their evolution
well into the future."
Get ready for the new battles ahead
as SNK gears up for the revolution at hand,
and remember: The dream match never ends
There is little other details regarding the news for what this means for other SNK properties going forward. The upcoming Fatal Fury: City of Wolves, the long awaited sequel to 1999's Mark of the Wolves, is set to launch in Spring of 2025, and that can serve as the launching platform for what KOF Studios is implied to stand for. The games currently listed under the KOF Studio umbrella are:
- King of Fighters XV
- Samurai Shodown
- SNK Heroines Tag Team Frenzy
- King of Fighters XIV
There is also an unnamed Samurai Shodown action RPG project that currently doesn't have a release window, but does have Japanese job listings for the staff.
SNK's owners (the Saudi Arabian Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman's MiSK Foundation) have spoken about wanting to return the brand and its games for their former glory, which includes the revival of some dormant IPs. Does this imply the return of other SNK fighting games they have developed and published in the past, such as Art of Fighting, Savage Reign, and The Ninja Master. The studio has recently teamed up with fellow Japanese developer ARIKA to aid with this mission statement.
