Sony Gives First Look At The PlayStation VR2

After lots of speculation and silence, PlayStation 5 owners finally have a peak at the next evolution of their virtual reality headset. PSVR was a success for the medium, selling over 5 million units in its lifetime and solidifying a market for VR gameplay. Pundits and fans have been clamoring for the PS5 follow-up. The new design offers a sleeker look in comparison to its bulkier predecessor.

New for the PS VR2 and its design is making it more ergonomically accommodating to different head sizes. The headband is retained, so the fitting is likely around the base of your eyes. There's also a lens adjustment dial to help users optimize their view better, and a built-in motor for headset feedback. The scope is also adjustable area that places it further away from your face and head for more comfort. The stereo jack will remain in the same place for familiarity.

Aesthetically, the PlayStation 5 VR 2 headset shares the design and scheme of the PS5 line of hardware, boasting the signature white and black detail with a sleeker, more rounded off design for the controllers. Yujin Morisawa, lead designer at SIE Japan, spoke about his favorite adjustment to the PS VR headset:

“When I started to work on the design for the PlayStation VR2 headset, one of the areas I wanted to focus on first was the idea of creating a vent in the headset to let air out, similar to the vents on the PS5 console that allows airflow. Our engineers came up with this idea as a good way to allow ventilation and avoid having the lens fog up while players are immersed in their VR games. I worked on many design concepts to achieve this, and in the final design, you can see there is a little space in between the top and front surface of the scope that contains the integrated ventilation."

Topping a lot of its features off, it will only take a single cord to connect the VR headset to your games. With its high fidelity 4K display, inside out camera tracking, and graphical rendering, PS VR2 aims to take some pretty significant steps forward in its virtual reality presentation.
