Sony Plans To Bring New "Pro Controllers" To The PlayStation 5

The PlayStation 5's Dualsense controller has been considered by pundits to be the best controller to date. The reception to the haptic feedback shoulder buttons and ergonomic designis very well received. Sony, however, is not done innovating on what's been established, and new tech is very likely being planned.

Based on a report from industry insider Jim Henderson of Try Hard Guides, new "genuinely professional controllers" will be revealed in a matter of weeks, according to sources. The controller, codenamed "Hunt", will boast features such as removable analog sticks, the rear paddles, and trigger stops.

Henderson notes that images of the controller's schematics exist, but under the request that they are not published to the public, and the sources have remained anonymous. Henderson also states that this doesn't mean a new model PlayStation 5 console is in the works.

"One of the biggest changes is buttons under the analog sticks, which allow you to completely remove the analog sticks and their components; which Sony refers to as 'removable stick units'", Henderson writes. "This presumably means you’ll just be able to be a stick unit, rather than a new controller if it develops “stick drift” (where your analog stick drifts one direction without moving)."

The removable buttons would indicate an effort to ease the reports of drift, a very common problem that has plagued modern video game controllers, so this may widely be considered a progressive step in hardware. JoyCon Drift has affected Nintendo Switch controllers, and the company has fought against the matter, even facing lawsuits. The haptic feedback has also been reported to weaken or break on PS5 Dualsense controllersnot long after the system's launch, perhaps this issue could be addressed by the consumer.
