While Nintendo has clarified no new hardware will be revealed in 2024, very little else is known about the follow-up to the Switch, other than it is indeed in development. The publisher/developer has held their cards really close to the chest with any concrete details, and the latest tidbit of information is about the same. According to GamesIndustry.biz, during their latest podcast episode, Chris Dring believes third party developers aren't anticipating a launch earlier than April 2025.
“No developer I’ve spoken to expects it to be launching this financial year,” Dring explains. “In fact, they’ve been told not to expect it in the [current] financial year. A bunch of people I spoke to hope it’s out in April or May time, still early next year, not late."
Nintendo did state that they intend to announce the succeeding console during the fiscal year ending in March 2025. Without question, the fanbase and the gaming industry as a whole are hungry for what Nintendo has cooking. The Switch's sales may have hit over a million throughout 2024 thus far, that traction has slowed down significantly for the 8 year old hybrid system, seeing sales profits take a 55% nosedive, according to Variety.
At 143 million units sold worldwide, the Nintendo Switch will see another holiday season. With little in the way of major first party software, will there be a surge of console sales come this Christmas?
