Street Fighter V Summer Update Roster Additions

Entering what is likely the final Pro Tour season of its lifespan, Street fighter V rolls out the first of what is to be its seasonal updates with 5 new characters set, along with the return of Street Fighter League season 3. Street Fighter V director Takayuki Nakayama and producer Shuhei Matsumoto held a 15 minute long event, delivering what's in store for the remainder of 2020 going into 2021. Onto the five new additions to the roster:

The self-proclaimed master of Saikyo style, Dan has been a Street Fighter fan favorite since debuting in Street Fighter Alpha. His own developed martial art, Saikyo-kyu, he believes is the strongest fighting style, despite having no inherent power.

Donning his signature pink gi and boasting taunts, Dan's origins began as a parody of Ryo Sakazaki, the main protagonist of SNK Entertainment's Art of Fighting series, mimicking a lot of his attacks in a comedic and ineffective fashion.

Also debuting in the Street Fighter Alpha series, the fortune teller returns to join her protege Menat. Sharing half of M. Bison's soul, Rose's mission has been to destroy all remnants of the Shadaloo leader. Rose has been speculated to return, given some of the mild similarities or her fighting style with the aforementioned Menat and fellow new character Falke. Rose utilizes "Soul Power", and her skill set has always involved ranged strikes and projectile nullifying abilities.

Debuting in Street Fighter III The New Generation in 1997, the 140 year old mystical hermit, Oro seeks a warrior worthy of inheriting his fighting style. In storyline, Oro is probably one of the most powerful characters in Street Fighter. Tricky to master and tough for beginners, Oro's greatest strengths involve misdirection and mobility, maximizing his damage through punishing juggle combos.

Quite a surprise, the fourth character announced was Akira Kazama from the Rival Schools series. Perhaps this is new head of Capcom's fighting game division, Ryozo Tsujimoto, testing waters for interest in the long dormant Rival Schools series, which hasn't seen an entry since Project Justice in 2000.

In her Rival Schools appearance, Akira sported two looks, one of them fully clad in biker gear and boasting two variations of fighting styles. Otherwise gentle and quiet, Akira can be a fierce and dangerous combatant.

There is still one more character to be revealed, and Capcom plans to have more news at later dates regarding that, as well as release dates for the new characters and stages.

Street Fighter V is currently available for the PlayStation 4 and Windows
