Petitions seldom go a long way towards being effective at having the influence of being noticed by the powers capable of hearing or seeing it, but occasionally there's a very good idea tucked away in them. One that was launched this morning on Change.org comes from independent developers Eyeballistic, who have been working diligently on a 4K remake of 1996's Mortal Kombat Trilogy. Considered the best in the series' original run, Mortal Kombat Trilogy is widely considered to be a highly entertaining game and a definitive love letter to digitized sprite-based graphics.

Their idea was originally shown to Mortal Kombat creator and director Ed Boon back in 2016, who liked the idea, but since Warner Bros. owns the rights, the weren't convinced it would sell 100,000 copies. As of this writing, the petition has over 2,900 signatures after two hours.

Their planned MK Trilogy Remake would run on Unreal Engine 5, rebuilding the digitized sprites of the actors and actresses, as well as the stages and backgrounds as highly detailed, sharp images that will run at 60 frames per second. Eyeballistic intends to recreate the entire roster and all finishers, Friendships, Babalities, and Animalities. The consoles aimed for its release are the Xbox Series line, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5, and PC.

"We anticipate the game would cost $39.99 and it would include everything the original MK Trilogy had plus the standard online match making and world wide leaderboards. If you want this remake to happen, please show your support by signing the petition. When we reach 100,000 supporters we’ll approach WB with a plan to use crowdfunding to further demonstrate that the game will sell like crazy!"

Eyeballistic has been signed on to develop video games for the Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S, has an upcoming fighting RPG titled Lawless, and produced the rhythm game Beatron 2000 for the Oculus Go. If this manages to gain any success in reaching Warner Bros. Games' attention, this will be the first time Mortal Kombat Trilogy would be rereleased on any other platform since 1996. The nostalgia alone would make this a great marketing and publishing strategy.

What do you think? Would you be interested in a remastered Mortal Kombat Trilogy?
