SunSoft Returns To Game Development And Publishing

Longtime game developer and publisher Sunsoft, who had been rather dormant for for a while, has recently reappeared to declare that they intend on producing new games again. This announcement came via a YouTube video hosted by Sunsoft's official VTuber mascot character Sunsoft-nosuke.

Sunsoft, the long-established game brand known for Kuso-ge like Mystery of Atlantis and Ikki will resume our activity in full swing!

Along with releasing new titles, Sunsoft also has plans to release a lot of their classic games from the past. The 40+ year publisher/developer has launched a Steam page, hosting one of its new games, Ikki Unite, a roguelike action game that can have up to 16 active players. Ikki was originally an arcade game released in 1985 and has seen re-releases and variations, including a mobile game.

Among other classic names, Sunsoft is also planning a new remastered version of Mr. Gimmick, titled Mr. Gimmick: Special Edition and Uforia The Saga. A Japan-only release, Mr. Gimmick was a platform game released in 1992 for the Famicom. Uforia the Saga is an action-adventure game that was released in Europe and Japan in 1991 for the NES., bearing gameplay elements similar to Blaster Master and Metroid.

Ikki Unite (PC) and Mr. Gimmick are slated for launch dates in 2022, with Uforia The Saga coming in 2023 for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and the Nintendo Switch.
