The Evolution Of Game Pass Coming In September

The Xbox Game Pass has always been a very consumer friendly model. Though reports came out last week confirmed that Microsoft wasn't making a great deal of money right now, stating it's not "big profit play", it shows that the company is looking to play the long term game with cloud gaming. Marketing boss Aaron Greenberg spoke in an interview with What's Good Games that Xbox Game Pass aims to truly pay off down the road.

"It's a different mindset.", Greenberg said, "If you do optimize for profit, and you do specifically say...'How do we get as much profit out of each customer?' Or do you pivot that and say, 'How do we add as much value to our fans?' 'How can we over-deliver on value?' If you do that, you build fans for life."

The steps towards that can be seen with Game Pass as the beta plans to bill it as Game Pass Ultimate, providing over 100 games that can be played on your Android mobile device or tablet from the cloud.

This beta will be for select markets and players will have access to games like Minecraft Dungeons, Forza Horizon 4, Destiny 2, and Ori and the Will of the Wisps at no additional cost to the plan you already have paid for. The app can be downloaded off the Google Play Store or Samsung Galaxy Apps.

Microsoft has envisioned a possibility where conventional consoles can be a luxury, not a necessity, to enjoy video games, and this may be a fantastic platform upon which this can truly be tested. This road map also looks way more ironed out and viable than Google Stadia, which provided very little incentive to own it, as most of its library is already across other platforms. The future of Xbox isn't about engaging in "wars" with the competition, but providing an incredibly accessible manner in which their base can indulge in a rich library in as stress-free manner as possible.

This beta will be available September 18th.
