The Game Awards Teases Big 'World Premiere' Being Zelda: Breath Of The Wild Sequel

The Game Awards cap off the end of the year, and along with presenting awards for the best titles, the ceremony is also peppered with game trailers and some surprise announcements. With one of the Game Of The Year nominees being Metroid Dread, which has been a solid success for the Nintendo Switch, becoming one of the fastest selling entries in the series, the next highly anticipated Switch title is the follow-up to the Wii U's Legend of Zelda: Breath Of The Wild.

Reported by NintendoLife, The Game Awards host and coordinator Geoff Keighley has been throwing hints about what the giant reveal will be for perhaps a newsworthy finale on Twitter.

"Just saw the final cut of a #thegameawards world premiere we have been working on with a developer for 2.5 years. Truly honored we are entrusted to share this work with the world."

It's key to note that the first glimpse of the sequel to Breath of the Wild was revealed back in June of 2019. And while a mild glimpse was aired at this year's E3 2021 digital event as a "premiere", it isn't uncommon for The Game Awards to showcase projects that have already been announced as world premieres. And technically, since "Breath of the Wild 2" isn't its official name, a title reveal for Nintendo gives it clarity.

Originally developed for the Wii U, 2017's Legend Of Zelda: Breath of the Wild saw a dual release on the Nintendo Switch as a launch title and became a smash success, winning three awards, including the Game of the Year and Best Game Direction.

The Game Awards 2021 will be streamed live December 9th.

If it isn't going to be Zelda, what do you think will be revealed at the Game Awards?
